Girls on the Run hosts their first Golf Fore Girls outing at Eagle Springs Golf Resort on Friday, August 19th. 80 golfers enjoy an afternoon of a 9 hole scramble, bidding on auction items, playing in contest, and eating delicious barbecue while raising essential funds to support Southeastern Wisconsin youth!
All monies raised from the outing will support Girls on the Run programming in the seven counties the Southeastern Wisconsin council serves. 42% of girls in the region, and 58% of girls served in Milwaukee county, will require and receive financial aid to participate in the 10-week season and culminating 5K event. "Scholarship girls" present a unique need for mentorship and the social-emotional learning components that only Girls on the Run can provide. Over eight teams, or 160 girls, will be able to participate in GOTR programming at no costs to their families from the proceeds raised from Golf Fore Girls.
Trained and caring coaches teach critical life skills, such as how to manage emotions, help others, make intentional decisions and resolve conflict that they use at home, at school and in social situations. Research shows that Girls on the Run has a positive impact on all participants and has the greatest impact on girls who enter the program with lower perceptions of their physical, social and meotional competencies. This knowledge further underscores Girls on the Run's responsibility to remove barriers to access and provide programming that is inclusive and equitable.
